Chicago Fire spoilers follow.
Chicago Fire is set to bring back original cast member Jesse Spencer as Matthew Casey following the exit of Taylor Kinney.
The latter star’s final scenes aired earlier this month on the show, as his character Kelly Severide left town to go to “the best arson investigation training program in the world”.
Kinney was confirmed to be taking leave of absence from the show back in January in order to deal with a personal matter.
According to Variety, Spencer is now set to re-join the series following his own departure in 2021 – though he did return as Casey for the season 10 finale last year.
The site reports that his character will re-enter the fray in episode 18 of season 11, though further details of how he will return remain unknown for now.
Alongside Kinney’s recent exit, the show confirmed last year that co-creator and co-showrunner Derek Haas would be leaving after season 11.
“Although I am leaving Wolf Entertainment next year to focus on creating new shows, I’m entirely committed to delivering amazing episodes of Chicago Fire and FBI: International through the end of the current seasons,” he said in a statement.
“I learned everything I know about storytelling, pace, characters, production values, and hiring the best cast, crews, and staffs from Dick Wolf and Peter Jankowski, and as hard as it is to leave a place you love and have called home for over a decade, including incredible support from Universal Television, NBC and CBS, I look forward to building my own brand in entertainment.”
Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med air on NBC and Peacock in the US, and on Sky Witness in the UK.
