‘The Madison’ Is Coming! Everything We Know About Taylor Sheridan’s Next Yellowstone Spinoff (March Update)

With Yellowstone ending its five-season run in 2024, Taylor Sheridan’s hit television universe is at a turning point. With the flagship series gone, Sheridan has begun development on multiple spinoffs and sequel series to keep the brand alive. Among these are a series following Rip and Beth’s adventures after Yellowstone, a new spinoff set in 1944, and a second season of 1923. The most mysterious upcoming spinoff, however, is The Madison.

The Madison is an entirely new spinoff that will expand the Yellowstone franchise in a new and exciting way, as Sheridan’s neo-Western television universe looks to move beyond the Dutton family and tell new stories. Fans still know very little about the upcoming series, but a few key details reveal what they should expect when it finally hits the small screen later this year.

What Will The Madison Be About?

The Madison is seemingly set after season 5 of Yellowstone but will follow a new cast of characters distinct from the original series. The official description for the upcoming series reveals that it will follow a wealthy family from New York whose life is turned upside down when they are hit by an unexpected tragedy. Seeking to start a new life, they move to central Montana, where the simple pleasures of everyday life help them connect on a deeper level as they continue to cope with the new status quo.

Exactly how the events of The Madison will play out remains to be seen, but audiences can expect the series to explore deeper themes of grief and loss. It is unclear whether the upcoming spinoff is planned as a multi-season story, like 1923, or if it will follow the one-season miniseries format, like 1883. Nevertheless, audiences can expect a deeply emotional narrative for at least one ten-episode season, with the potential for more stories to be told in future seasons.

Michelle Pfeiffer Plays the Lead Role In The Madison

The Madison will continue Yellowstone‘s tradition of casting a major star in the lead role. The original series starred Kevin Costner as John Dutton III, while the two prequel spinoffs featured multiple other major stars in the main roles, including Tim McGraw, Harrison Ford, and Helen Mirren. Following suit, The Madison star Michelle Pfeiffer in the lead role of Stacy Clyburn.

Yellowstone’s Most Controversial Character Was Actually The Show’s Most Disappointing

Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone includes several terrific character arcs, but one of the show’s prominent villains is a disappointment in the end.

Very little is known about Pfeiffer’s character so far, but it can be assumed that she is the matriarch of the central family of the series. If so, Clyburn will be dealing with the grief of losing several family members when the series starts. This gives Pfeiffer a chance to explore some deep emotions as the character works through her loss in the first season of the upcoming series. Audiences may recognize Pfeiffer from any number of roles she’s performed in the past, including Catwoman in Batman Returns, Elvira Hancock in Scarface, and Janet Van Dyne in the Ant-Man movies.

Who Makes Up the Cast of The Madison?

Several Television Stars Will Appear In The Madison

Michelle Pfeiffer isn’t the only cast member to be confirmed for The Madison. She will be joined by an elite group of stars who will round out the upcoming series’ main cast. Among the confirmed cast members is Matthew Fox, best known for his work in Lostwhere he played Dr. Jack Shepherd. Fox will portray a character named Paul, about whom audiences still know very little.

Also joining the cast of The Madison are Elle Chapman and Patrick J. Adams. Chapman is an up-and-coming actress who recently appeared in the Tom Hanks film A Man Called Otto. Adams is best known for playing Mike Ross in the hit legal drama Suits, which recently found renewed popularity on Netflix. Rounding out the cast are a series of other actors, including Beau Garrett, Amiah Miller, Ben Schnetzer, Kevin Zegers, and Rebecca Spence. Although audiences have few details about any of these characters, it can be assumed that some will round out the members of Stacy Clyburn’s family.

Will The Madison Be Connected to the Yellowstone Franchise?

The Madison Is a New Chapter In Taylor Sheridan’s Television Universe

The Madison is confirmed to be a part of the Yellowstone franchise but does not appear to have any substantial connection to the other series. The upcoming series marks the first installment in Taylor Sheridan’s television universe that does not feature the Dutton family as its central characters. Instead, The Madison seems devoted to introducing a new family with no apparent connections to the Duttons whatsoever. Therefore, while it takes place in the same universe as Yellowstone, it does not have any substantial connections to the original series.

Yellowstone Season 5B took a massive twist as John Dutton III was killed. Did Kevin Costner’s exit help or hurt Yellowstone’s final season?

The closest that The Madison comes to a Yellowstone connection is its setting. Both series are set in central Montana, where the rolling hills and open fields of the natural landscape are constantly under threat of urbanization. This opens the door for cameos from various Yellowstone stars and future crossovers between the two series. However, as it stands before the premiere, The Madison is mostly on its own in the Yellowstone universe.

When Will The Madison Premiere?

The Madison does not yet have an official release date but is expected to premiere sometime in 2025. Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone Universe has a busy year ahead of it, with 1923 Season 2 scheduled for a late February release. The final season of the prequel series will run for eight episodes, likely wrapping up sometime in the middle of April. Audiences shouldn’t expect to see The Madison‘s series premiere until after the second season of 1923, though a trailer could be released sometime before then.

It is most likely that The Madison premieres sometime in late 2025, perhaps airing its first half in the Winter and its final five episodes in early 2026. This has been the pattern of Yellowstone‘s spinoffs so far, with 1883 and 1923 Season 1 both premiering in December and running until February. The Madison could follow this tried and true pattern, finding similar success as its predecessors. Yellowstone fans can also expect The Madison to come out before the 1923 sequel series, 1944, which isn’t expected to premiere until 2026.

Is There a Trailer for The Madison?

Audiences Haven’t Seen Any Footage From The Madison Yet

As of January 2025, there has not yet been a trailer for The Madison. Paramount has been very tight-lipped about the project so far, not letting anything slip into the public eye. Audiences have yet to see any footage or even behind-the-scenes pictures from the production of the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff.

It is unclear when the first trailer for The Madison will arrive, but there are some likely possibilities. Filming is already well underway, indicating that Paramount could release footage soon, keeping audiences invested in what’s to come. The studio may even attach the first trailer for The Madison to the second season of 1923. This would be a terrific way to market the upcoming series to fans of the franchise. Audiences should keep their eyes peeled for a trailer, especially as 1923 starts to wrap up its second season.
