The Chase star Bradley Walsh and his son Barney have fired back at a common misconception about their TV show.
The father and son duo have filmed six series of Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad together. Each series sees the pair travelling around in a motorhome learning about different countries and cultures.
The current series, airing on ITV One, sees the pair travelling around Asia, taking in the likes of Bangkok in Thailand and Tokyo in Japan. Past series have seen the pair driving around South America, Europe and the United States of America.
For each road trip, the pair travelled around in a huge motorhome. The inaugural series in the USA saw them driving a 36-foot, 7.5 tonne RV.
Many viewers however have been left doubting whether former Coronation Street star Bradley is actually behind the wheel. The presenter made the revelation on The Chris Evans show after the radio presenter joked “you’d want one”.
Bradley replied: “In the States we had unbelievable ones. The Fleetwoods we drove in the States. And I do drive them. People don’t think I drive them.”
Radio star Chris replied: “Of course you drive them, it’s obvious, why don’t people think you drive them? You can see it on the telly.”
Barney added: “A lot of people write, ‘Bradley’s not driving that’ or, ‘they’re being towed’, and I’m just thinking, ‘can you imagine the logistics of not only going to the country, but getting Winnebago, hiring a tow truck company, getting it, and then removing to tow truck for the wide shots of looking back. It would just be massive.”
Breaking Dad has been a hit with viewers with many praising the close bond between Bradley, 64, and son Barney, 27. The pair discussed their relationship when they appeared on ITV’s This Morning.
Bradley said: “He has always been my son, and you always take care of them. But then all of a sudden he becomes your equal and a work colleague, and a mate, and someone you respect.”
The star added: “Now I look up to him. Barney, bless him, was directing me on some of the things ‘Dad don’t worry about this, you need to be thinking about this’, and actually producing me.”
When appearing on The Tommy Tiernan Show, Bradley said working alongside his son is “one of the most wonderful things” he’d done. He added: “Spending time with my lad from the age of 18, he’s now 26 by the way, was just extraordinary. It was the greatest thing.”
Bradley shares Barney with wife Donna Derby. He also has a daughter, Hayley Walsh, from a previous relationship.
