Chicago P.D. Showrunner teases Season 12 wedding

Get ready Chi-Hards, there may finally witness a long-awaited wedding in Season 12 of Chicago P.D.

Officers Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) are engaged and happily cohabitating on the show. Their relationship has faced numerous challenges, but they have emerged stronger and more united.

Viewers have been eagerly anticipating their wedding, speculating whether it will be as intimate and straightforward as the ceremony between Hailey Upton and Jay Halstead. In a recent interview, the showrunner gave fans hope that the big event could be featured in the upcoming season.

Chicago P.D. Showrunner , Gwen Sigan, Discusses a Possible Burgess-Ruzek Wedding

“I’m very excited to get into it,” Gwen Sigan told TVLine. “So few times on this show do you get these really happy moments.”

As Sigan pointed out, the police drama has focused more on dramatic storylines than on happy endings. The happy ending that Upton (played by Tracy Spiridakos) received, where she left Chicago on her terms to find happiness elsewhere, may be an exception to this rule.

“I think it’ll be fun [to write],” Sigan added. “There’s definitely a possibility of, ‘Are we going to do the wedding next year? Are we going to do the planning? What are we going to see?’ So, I’m excited to figure out all of that.”

As for what their wedding could look like, the Showrunner shared her thoughts: “They’ve been through so much and they have grown so much that it was just this very honest, small, intimate moment between the two of them. But then I also think about Makayla and that she’s going to be a part of all those conversations and wanting to be a part of [the ceremony].”

While we will have to wait for Chicago P.D. Season 12 to see if the wedding happens, the groundwork has been laid out for it.
