Casualty star Anna Chell has revealed that her character Jodie Whyte will betray a new ally, in the show’s new series

Casualty star Anna Chell has revealed that her character Jodie Whyte will betray a new ally, in the show’s new series.

Since she joined the show last year, the show has explored nurse Jodie’s relationship with her estranged father Max, and her romance with paramedic Teddy, with the couple recently splitting up.

But Jodie will take centre stage in the BBC One drama’s next boxset, which starts next week and is titled ‘Public Property’.

The new run of ten episodes will explore where the line should be drawn between working in a public service job and the right to a private life. It appears that the series will begin in dramatic fashion, as “Jodie’s actions cause a disastrous ripple effect”.

“Jodie is a good nurse,” explained actor Chell, “but she is easily wrapped up in moments that could potentially crush her career and her relationships. She often does things without thinking about the consequences and finds herself in sticky situations.

“During the next boxset, her self-worth hits an all-time low. She’s not had many people to lean on, then her actions throughout this next boxset push away the people she does have. So her self-worth is at rock bottom.”

Chell continued: “She’s been in her own little bubble for such a long time and she’s always reluctant to let people in, so she often seeks short-term connections to stem the pain of what she’s going through – which the audience have seen a bit of, and there’s maybe more to come.”

Little has been revealed about what will happen to Jodie in the next series, but it is known that Dylan will offer to become her mentor in the workplace as she aims to progress her career.

But it isn’t long before Jodie betrays Dylan’s trust and goes against his advice, in a situation that leaves her feeling “deeply disappointed with herself and embarrassed”.

“I think Jodie will be forced to evolve,” Chell reflected. “She can’t carry on as how she’s been carrying on. Her actions will only keep pushing her back and affecting her career. She’s got that fire inside of her and she is desperate to be a good nurse.”
