Casualty kicks off Charlie Fairhead’s exit story as he makes a discovery

Casualty has kicked off Charlie Fairhead’s exit storyline, as he makes a big discovery.

The previous episode (which aired on February 24) ended with consultant Stevie being arrested by police officer Harry for grievous bodily harm after she sedated a patient in fear he was going to attack nurse Cam.

In this Saturday’s upcoming installment (airing on March 2), new clinical nurse manager Siobhan isn’t convinced by Harry’s actions, but he defends himself and Charlie agrees meekly with his old friend.

After dealing with a patient together, Charlie notices that Harry is injured. While seeing to his injuries, he finds a fragment of a tooth embedded in his wound. Charlie is suspicious about his discovery and asks Siobhan to look into the medical records of Harry’s wife Mel.

In the last episode, Mel was admitted to hospital after apparently falling through the hatch in their loft.

While treating her, Stevie spotted signs that led her to believe that all’s not as it seems with Mel and Harry’s relationship.

She voiced her concerns to Charlie and Siobhan, but Charlie was adamant that nothing was amiss, as he knew both Harry and Mel very well.

Sure enough, the medical records show that Mel recently suffered a chipped tooth, which leads Charlie to connect the dots – remembering Stevie’s worries about Harry. He calls the police, and Harry is later arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse.

After realising she was right all along, Charlie goes to Stevie’s flat to make amends, but she doesn’t answer. From outside, he explains the situation with Harry and says that he wants Stevie to come back to work.

Charlie eventually leaves, and from inside her flat, Stevie sheds a tear.

It was confirmed back in May that the show’s longest-serving cast member Derek Thompson was leaving his role as Charlie after 37 years.

Upon the announcement, it was understood that Charlie’s exit would be the culmination of a huge storyline that would see his character at the centre of the show’s action, with his final scenes airing early this year.
