Casualty isn’t on next week – here’s why fans will have to wait

Casualty fans will have a bit longer to wait before the next episode, as the BBC medical drama won’t be on air next week (17 May).

There’s a simple explanation for this: next week the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest will be broadcast on BBC One, with UK viewers rooting for girl group Remember Monday to get ‘douze points’ in Basel, Switzerland.

As a result, Casualty won’t be airing in its usual Saturday night slot and also won’t be released early on BBC iPlayer.

However, normal service will resume the week after (24 May), as the show heads into the final three thrilling episodes of the current boxset, ‘Internal Affairs’.

In this series, Rida was sexually assaulted by surgeon Russell while at work and has been torn as to whether to report her colleague’s misconduct.

This week, Rida made the bold decision to make public an online group which exposed the inappropriate behaviour of surgeons nationwide.

When Russell gathered all the women on the surgical team to talk about the list, Nicole spoke up, but Rida surprisingly shut her down – which impressed Russell.

However, Rida later told Nicole that she was trying to get on Russell’s good side, and this was all part of a plan to take him down and get justice. What will Rida’s next move be?

Elsewhere, paramedic Indie’s dad Samuel came back into the picture this week when he was released from prison, and he immediately got back in touch with his daughter.

With Indie currently staying with Jan, she couldn’t give him a place to stay, so she instead took Samuel to a burned-out house that she attended during a previous shift. Will Indie’s decision to help her dad come back to haunt her?

Iain and Faith’s wedding is also fast approaching, with the couple’s big day previewed in the trailer for this boxset.

But with an ambulance also seen crashing into the Emergency Department, there’s a lot of drama to come…

No Casualty This Week — But Here’s Why the Drama Will Be Worth the Wait

Fans of the long-running BBC medical drama Casualty will need to exercise a little patience this week, as the next episode won’t air on its usual Saturday night slot (17 May). Instead of returning to the halls of Holby ED for another emotionally intense installment, viewers will find themselves swept up in the glamour and spectacle of the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final, live from Basel, Switzerland.

While it’s disappointing news for those following the tense developments in Holby, there’s good reason for the brief hiatus. BBC One will be broadcasting Eurovision in full, with the UK rooting for girl group Remember Monday as they take to the stage hoping to earn those coveted “douze points.” With all eyes on Europe’s biggest musical event, Casualty has gracefully stepped aside—for one week only.

When Will Casualty Return?

Fans won’t have to wait long. Normal scheduling will resume on Saturday, 24 May, with the next installment picking up right where we left off. That episode will be part of the final three entries in the current boxset titled “Internal Affairs”—and if early teases are anything to go by, they will be among the most dramatic of the season.

The storyline has been building up to several emotional and physical flashpoints, so the return episode is expected to be an unmissable hour of television.

Rida’s Fight for Justice Reaches a Critical Point

One of the most powerful arcs of the season has centered around Rida, who recently revealed she was sexually assaulted by surgeon Russell while at work. Her internal conflict about whether to report the abuse has made for gut-wrenching viewing, portraying the reality many survivors face when standing up to institutional power.

In a bold twist, Rida took her battle public this week by helping to create an online group aimed at exposing inappropriate behavior by surgeons nationwide. This movement is rapidly gaining traction, and tensions in Holby’s surgical department have reached boiling point.

In a charged confrontation, Russell gathered the surgical team to discuss the growing controversy. When Nicole tried to speak up, Rida unexpectedly silenced her. Russell seemed impressed—believing Rida was trying to protect him. But in private, Rida told Nicole it was all part of her calculated plan to earn Russell’s trust and bring him down from the inside.

This calculated strategy adds complexity to Rida’s character and raises the stakes. Will her undercover approach succeed? Or will it backfire before she can expose Russell for good?

Indie’s Family Troubles Surface Again

Elsewhere in the ED, paramedic Indie Jankoski faces another personal crisis as her father, Samuel, is released from prison. Though they have a complicated and painful history, Samuel reaches out to Indie for support almost immediately.

With Indie currently living under Jan’s roof, she’s unable to offer her father a place to stay. In a desperate and potentially risky move, she takes Samuel to a burned-out house she had visited during a previous emergency callout. While the gesture is clearly born of compassion, it also hints at a dangerous vulnerability. Could her decision to help her father come back to haunt her?

Indie’s arc continues to explore the fallout of family trauma, forgiveness, and the difficulties of setting boundaries. Fans are bracing themselves to see if her compassionate heart will once again land her in trouble.

A Wedding… and a Crash?

Amidst all the tension and trauma, there’s a spark of light—Iain and Faith’s wedding is on the horizon. The trailer for Internal Affairs gave fans a glimpse of their big day, promising heartfelt moments and long-awaited joy for two of Holby’s most beloved characters.

But in true Casualty fashion, nothing comes without a twist. The same trailer showed a horrifying ambulance crash into the Emergency Department. The brief shot raises a ton of questions: Who is in the ambulance? Is this crash connected to the wedding? Could tragedy strike on what was supposed to be a day of celebration?

Buckle Up for the Final Three Episodes

As we head into the final episodes of Casualty’s Internal Affairs arc, the stakes have never been higher. The series is tackling bold topics—workplace abuse, survivor solidarity, family dysfunction, and frontline romance—all wrapped in its trademark blend of heart-stopping action and emotional resonance.

So, while there may be no episode this week, the wait will only make the payoff sweeter. Whether you’re here for the takedown of corrupt power figures, the emotional whirlwind of wedding bells and trauma, or just to see what twists Holby has in store next—rest assured, Casualty will deliver.
