EXCLUSIVE: Casualty’s Olly Rix opened up about his struggles filming for the beloved BBC series

Casualty star Olly Rix, who plays Clinical Lead Flynn Byron in the long running BBC medical drama, has admitted he sometimes trips over the complicated medical jargon required in his role. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, the 40-year-old actor responded when asked if he had struggled with some of the terms used in the show. “I’m sure I have. I mean, that’s the joy of TV, right? You get to go again.

“Sometimes you just get a certain, a certain medical procedure or bit of equipment or something that you just can’t get your head around. No matter how many times you practice saying it at home, you just know, first take it’s going to go wrong and it does. And then you, then you adjust, and you, you get on with it. I mean, it’s fun. It’s a new challenge. It doesn’t let up. It doesn’t get easier,” he confessed.

However Olly revealed they do have some help when it comes to the medical spcifics on the show. “Casualty is intense, medically – very, very involved. We should shout out the medical professionals that we have on the floor.

“There’s normally at least four or five at any given moment, so there are a lot of brilliant medical professionals helping us, hopefully making it look like we know what we’re doing,” he laughed.

Although he has only appeared on screens in recent weeks, due to the lapse between fimling and braodcast, Olly has actually been working on the show for almost ten months now.

Despite the length of time he has been on the show he confessed he still finds the filming schedule full on and it has taken some getting used to.

“It’s relentless. But what an amazing thing to be involved in at the same time. I simply don’t get a break. I don’t get a weekend.

“My weekend is spent pacing around, banging my head against the wall, trying to remember lines, or thinking about reshoots or thinking about the next episode. And it’s just so full on.

“But I think there’s something about that that feeds so nicely into the work,” he said. “You know, I go in, and I’ve been doing this [filming] for nine months now without publicly acknowledging what we’re doing.

“I just go in, put scrubs on, and work really, really long days and I feel exhausted by the end of it. And I think that kind of works. I think maybe that’s what it’s really like for doctors.”
