Casualty has confirmed the name of its latest boxset, as well as revealing a new character played by a familiar face.
The soap’s official social media channels announced that Cold Feet, Downton Abbey and Toast of London actor Robert Bathurst is joining the cast.
“Welcome to the ED, Robert Bathurst!” the post reads. “Robert’s character Russell Whitelaw, is a top-tier surgeon, a man who has commanded the operating room for years with his unmatched skill and domineering personality.
“Look out for Russell in the upcoming Casualty boxset ‘Internal Affairs’.”

Casualty has been using the boxset/mini-series format since 2023, connecting a number of episodes together through a theme or an event. Currently, the show is airing the ‘Public Property’ arc, exploring the topic of public service workers’ right to a private life, and where the line begins/ends.
The soap hasn’t teased the plotline of ‘Internal Affairs’ yet, so we can only speculate for now what it refers to. Could it be about affairs in the relationship sense, general goings-on in the ED, investigations into misconduct by law enforcement, or a combination of all three?

And with regards to Russell Whitelaw specifically, will his “domineering personality” mean that he will rub some of his co-workers up the wrong way?
