Casualty introduces brand new paramedic in show first

Casualty is set to introduce a brand new paramedic in a show first.

Newcomer Indie Jankowski, who is played by Pennyworth’s Naomi Wakszlak is set to debut on the BBC soap this weekend (January 11), and will become Holby’s first-ever student paramedic.

Fans may recognise Indie after she appeared in an episode over the Christmas period, initially getting off on the wrong foot with Jan during training.

However, her opinion was changed after Jan gave an inspiring speech, and determined to prove she was dedicated to her training, Indie begged Jan to let her do her third-year placement at Holby – which Jan agreed to.

In this weekend’s episode, Indie starts her placement, though begins by lying to Jan about passing one of her modules, and tags along with Iain and Teddy as they attend to a drive-by shooting.

Speaking about joining the soap, Naomi said: “It’s a huge honour to work on BBC’s Casualty and join the incredible cast and crew here in making one of the UK’s best-loved series. I hope you’ll all love Indie as much as I do!”

Executive producer of Casualty for BBC Studios Roxanne Harvey added: “Naomi is an emerging talent who brings depth and authenticity to the role, seamlessly capturing Indie’s determination and drive to prove herself in a demanding environment.

“As Indie navigates her professional journey, viewers will witness her growth as a paramedic and the relationships she forms with colleagues, her boss Jan and patients.”
