Beth & Rip’s New Ranch Explained: How Far Is It From Kayce & Yellowstone?

Yellowstone season 5, episode 14, “Life Is A Promise,” reveals Beth and Rip’s fate when the pair move to a new ranch in Dillon. Yellowstone’s ending wraps things up for many of the Duttons. It answers questions that had been lingering all season, such as what the fate of the Dutton ranch would be and what would happen to each member of the family after John’s death. One of the top questions on the list was what would happen to fan-favorite couple Beth and Rip.

Unsurprisingly, after attending the funeral wraps up the death of Yellowstone’s John Dutton’s story, Beth goes to Jamie’s to get her final revenge on the adopted brother. Jamie attempts to choke Beth to death with his bare hands, but Rip arrives in time, helping her kill her brother. Rip and Lloyd dispose of the body while she recovers in the hospital, effectively selling the idea that Jamie escaped. Thus, Beth and Rip will not face legal trouble beyond the events of Yellowstone and are free to start the next chapter of their life on their new ranch.

Beth Buys A New Ranch In Montana For Her, Rip, & Carter
She Moves Them Away Before Talking To Rip

As Kayce prepares to sell the Yellowstone Ranch, Beth shows Rip photos of a new ranch online, not that she has already bought it until after he has seen the information. This scene shows how well the pair know each other and are in sync with each other’s needs, as Rip’s concerns are only about whether Beth will be happy. Instead, Rip’s main concern is that the new ranch is far from town, and he doesn’t think Beth will enjoy being isolated.

Beth, however, takes the proactive step of buying the property because she knows that this ranch is about to be sold and she and Rip will no longer be able to stay in her family’s ancestral home. Her decision to buy the new ranch in Dillon also wraps up Carter’s storyline sweetly, as Beth and Rip take him with them to work on the new ranch, signifying that she has finally come to see him as an adopted son.

How Far Is Beth & Rip’s Ranch In Dillon, Montana From Yellowstone
Rip Suggests It’s Close Enough That He Can Help Kayce If Needed

As Rip explains to Beth, the Dillon ranch is in a more isolated part of Montana, and this is thrilling for her. Upon arrival, she tells Rip excitedly that she found a bar, and the bartender laughs at the idea of tourists passing through and interfering with the residents’ way of life. Thus, the Dillon ranch is closer to the rural lifestyle that Beth craves, as it is untouched by visitors from big cities who want a taste of country life without respecting it.

…Dillon is about 40 miles west of the Bozeman area, where Yellowstone takes place, making it possible to drive between the two areas fairly easily.

While this suggests that Beth and Rip’s new ranch is extremely isolated, this is untrue. In reality, Dillon is about 40 miles west of the Bozeman area, where the events of Yellowstone take place, making it possible to drive between the two areas fairly easily. This explains Rip’s comment in Yellowstone season 5, episode 14 as he and Lloyd take down the ranch’s welcome sign that Kayce should let him know if he needs help with the property Chief Rainwater allowed him to keep.

What Beth & Rip’s New Ranch Reveals About Their Yellowstone Spinoff
It Gives Them A New Setting For Their Stories While Still Remaining Connected To The Flagship Series

Relocating to a new ranch helps set up Yellowstone’s Beth and Rip spinoff. The move allows Beth, Rip, and Carter’s stories to be centered around life on the new ranch. While they are happy in their new place, there will likely be trouble they haven’t anticipated as their series moves forward that will test both their ability to make a living on the new ranch and their marriage. Some stories may come from weather-related challenges such as the more brutal winters in Dillon. However, other issues might revolve around them being relatively isolated and new to the community in Dillon.

Beth and Rip’s upcoming Yellowstone spinoff doesn’t have to be completely disconnected from the Dutton family, however. Kayce still lives and works on his own property in Bozeman and thus could be a recurring part of Taylor Sheridan’s next endeavor. There could be situations where RIp and Beth turn to him or Chief Rainwater for help with an issue. Thus, Beth and Rip’s spinoff could still be connected to Yellowstone while moving the couple to a completely new area to start their own lives independent of John’s influence and legacy.
